A listing for Sonic Origins has appeared on the PlayStation Store in Australia and New Zealand, revealing new information on the upcoming compilation.
The list, which can be accessed via a PlayStation account in Australia or New Zealand, appears to have hit the shelves ahead of time.
Product descriptions reveal that every classic retro Sonic game included will have a new opening and closing animation, and will include classic and anniversary modes.
renew: Sega officially announced Sonic Origins and confirmed a June release date.

The original story continues: Classic Mode will display the game at its native resolution and has the same limited lifetime as the 16-bit era.
Meanwhile, Anniversary Mode will give players infinite life and present the game in an all-new widescreen resolution.
Origins will also include quests that allow players to collect coins. These can be used in the game’s museum mode to unlock new content, challenges and special stages.
The listing on the PlayStation app also seems to hint at plans for a physical release, as it mentions that owners of PS4 discs will be able to upgrade to the PS5 version.
Sonic Origins is a retro compilation that includes the following games:
- Sonic the Hedgehog
- Sonic the Hedgehog 2
- Sonic CD
- Sonic the Hedgehog 3
- sonic and knuckles
The compilation was originally announced during Sega’s Sonic Central presentation in May 2021, but new information has been scarce until this week, when the game was rated in South Korea.
In an interview with Japanese site 4Gamer last year, Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka confirmed that the games in Sonic Origins won’t run on emulators, but rather brand new ports.
This will allow the game to be rendered in 16:9 widescreen, with other tweaks and modifications, similar to the acclaimed mobile port published by Christian Whitehead (who will continue to work on Sonic Mania).
