Riot Games revealed some changes to Jett that could drastically change how duelists behave in Valorant. Read on to find out what the changes are.
A recent statement from Riot Games revealed that Jett’s Tailwind skill will receive significant changes. As revealed by the developers, these changes will allow them to increase game health by balancing Jett with other agents.
Given that Riot Games had promised that Episode 4 would see a series of Agent updates, these changes to Jett didn’t really surprise the community. With that said, let’s dive into all the changes coming to Jett.

downwind
- After pressing the skill key, Jett activates a 12-second window after a short delay, in which she has the right to sprint immediately the next time the button is pressed.
- Her Tailwind charge is lost whether she’s Dash or the window expires, but can still be regained with two kills.
Why Jett is about to make a change
The developers further describe the key issues they found with Jett dash. all these are:
- There are no prerequisites for sprinting, so she can always use her escape power without having to make a deliberate decision. This freedom gives Jett the unexpected ability to constantly occupy spaces or maintain unusual grounds without having to pay her ability. This playstyle is unmatched by other agents and allows Jett to apply extreme pressure in a match that can be oppressive, especially in high MMR or pro games.
- This lack of deliberate decision making made her feel like she was playing outside of the tactical loop that all of our other agents insisted on. Many times, she doesn’t have to tap into the game sense other agents need to succeed, as her reactive sprints can often negate her own strategic mistakes or an opponent’s great tactical call.
- As we talked about in Controller Deep Dive, one of our core design philosophies is that Agents are sharp, offering clear advantages and opportunity costs compared to their peers. Jett is both a sprint performer on offense and a force at angle with the Op – allowing for an unrestricted escape – giving her a wide range of powers with few downsides. We want her to keep as much offense as possible on offense, but reduce her defensive mobility.
- She proved difficult to strategize even in highly coordinated play, and her ability to escape instantly (not to mention two on-demand smokescreens) marginalized most of the tools other agents had to deal with her.
That being said, it remains to be seen how these new changes will affect Jett’s performance in Valorant. Given that Jett is one of the most favored duelists in the game, a massive blow to her arsenal is sure to change the overall element of a tactical FPS.
