After previously claiming that the upcoming Saints Row reboot will feature the “largest customization kit” of any game in the series to date, Volition is setting out to prove it’s as good as it promises with a brand new trailer.
Earlier today, a new Saints Row custom trailer showed off a host of options, from cars and guns to a new headquarters set inside a crumbling church. Further down are the character options, which even offer selectable “modesty options” for the character’s genitals and chest area.
Some options include:
- Asymmetric face customization.
- Transgender clothing, including skirts, pants, shoes, hats, underwear, coats and socks.
- Ability to customize the type, texture, tone and radiance of teeth and skin, including definition of muscles and veins. Your character may look like everything from furry to vampires.
- Various prostheses, such as prosthetic legs.
- Single-part guns can be customized with a variety of skins and decals. You can also put an RPG in a guitar case.
- Extensive vehicle customization for over 80 cars, including the ability to modify paint, exotic parts and components, engines, wheels and dirt.
- A multi-story house that grows with your criminal empire, with details including tons of statues.
The new trailer follows previous assertions that Saints Street will make you a “grim killer or a fantastic freak show”. Volition also confirmed that layered costumes are returning, and that there are eight different voices to choose from for the boss – four female and four male.

Saints Row’s new look has been met with backlash from fans who have criticized what they see as similarities to Fortnite. As far as will goes, it says it “won’t back down” and “no one has rebooted like this before”.
IGN’s own preview observed that the Saints Street reboot “brings the madman back to Saints Street 3 levels”. So while the customization is certainly wild, the story itself may not be as exaggerated as it might seem at first glance.
Saints Row first released in 2006 and gained a following from fans who liked its ridiculous take on the sandbox genre. It ended in 2013 with Saints Row 4, which included Boss Escape from a computer simulation based on the 1950s sitcom.
The new entry, due later this year, shifts the setting to the American Southwest and features a gang trying to build their own criminal empire. Volition has stated that the apparent absence of Saints Row’s signature purple color is due to the fact that the protagonist is not yet a saint.
Saints Row will release on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S on August 23rd. While you wait, check out other big games coming out in 2022.
