If you’re in the market for a soundbar, you might want to save some money for Sonos’ upcoming offering.
The Verge reports that Sonos’ entry-level soundbar is almost ready for a close-up, possibly as early as June 7. The device is said to be codenamed “Fury,” although the publication says it may be listed as “model number” S36. The model is said to cost $250 and will join Sonos’ existing line of soundbars, including the $450 Beam 2 and the $800 Arc.
Sonos didn’t show official images of the new device, so The Verge mocked up its own 3D rendering for the news. While it’s not an exact replica of what’s to come, it does offer some glimpses into Sonos’ future strategy.
Sonos will inevitably continue to provide budgets. For more than a decade, its speakers have been praised for their relatively room-filling sound. There’s also plenty of budget competition from other brands, namely Vizio, which managed to put together a particularly hot home theater bundle with the V-Series V51x-J6, which is now under $200.
Since it’s not a flagship device, the rumored budget Sonos soundbar isn’t being reported as having the same offerings as its premium counterparts. It probably doesn’t have Dolby Atmos or a built-in microphone for calling digital assistants, and it doesn’t have an HDMI port. The leak says that there is only one optical cable in the box to connect it to your TV. However, if you have other Sonos speakers in your home, you can sync them with this one for 5.1 surround sound. At least now there might be an affordable way to add to your ecosystem without breaking the bank Even More than what you have after investing in a Sonos system.
Leaked specs for the Sonos S36 make it smaller than the Sonos Beam, which is already a very compact device in its own right. The company also believes that its existing user base may want to utilize one of these to add to their setups, so it will also allegedly sell an accessory for mounting the soundbar vertically on a wall, the report said.
Sonos hasn’t announced this affordable soundbar, so for now, it’s just something to look forward to. The Verge asked Sonos about this particular leak, and the company responded that it doesn’t “comment on rumors or speculation.”
