343 Industries has revealed what Halo Infinite players can expect from Season 2, which arrives on May 3.
“Understanding the rules of engagement is critical to success,” the developers wrote. “Today, we’re giving you an early look at the new game modes coming to Halo Infinite Season 2 – Territory Raid, King of the Hill, and Last of the Spartans.”
So, without further ado, here is the little tempter of the lone wolf in the second season of Halo Infinite.
In King of the Hill (a much cherished part of previous Halo games), players will have to fight for a neutral hill somewhere on the map. However, 343 revealed a turning point. Unlike the standard hill game at the playground, just because someone has captured the hill, doesn’t mean the turn is over. Instead, they’ll earn points for their team for every second they spend on the hill without competition. The points will go into a “capture bar”, and when that bar is full, a new hill will spawn elsewhere on the map.
Landgrab has a similar concept. As the name suggests, in this mode, players must occupy three neutral areas on the map. When either area is captured, it will be locked and the team will earn a point for their land grab. Once all three of these neutral areas have been captured, there will be a small pause and then three more areas will spawn on the map. Continue playing in this fashion until a team reaches 11 points.
Meanwhile, in The Last of Spartans, players must fight to be… wrong… the last Spartan.
343 says: “In this free-to-play experience, 12 players spawn on the brigade map with limited loadout and 5 respawns. Once players run out of spawns and can no longer participate, they can watch or leave the game There were no penalties in the game.”
But there’s more… If players get killed during a match, they can upgrade to different weapons, just like in Escalation Slayer.
343 community director Brian Jarrard has previously stated that the studio understands that some fans are “totally impatient” with the game’s various setbacks, and his team is “certainly unhappy that it has not been able to meet player and community expectations.” However, he added that some of that should be addressed as part of the new season.
