Samsung recently made the Google Messages app the default messaging app for its flagship phones in the US. In other markets, it continues to have its own native messaging app as the default option.
However, many people choose to use the Google Messages app on their devices. If you are one of them, you may need to pay attention. A bug in the app was draining the phone’s battery by leaving the camera on.
There is a workaround for this Google Messages bug
Reports suggest a bug in the Google Messages app caused the camera to open in the background. This can cause the device to overheat and lose battery life. The bug was related to a feature in the app that made it easy for users to take pictures and attach them to messages.
A live feed from the camera is displayed in the view for attaching images from the gallery in case you want to take a new photo. The latest update to the app introduced a bug where the camera feed would occasionally run even when the Messages app was in the background. This can lead to overheating and rapid battery drain.
Google has not yet acknowledged the bug. However, it goes without saying that the company should roll out an update with a fix soon. There is a workaround to prevent this bug from draining your phone’s battery. Just deny Google Messages permission to use your phone’s camera. This can be done via the app info menu in the settings app.
