According to unconfirmed sources (via Apple Tracking).
The now-deleted post comes from an unverified source on Chinese social media site Weibo and claims to reveal the full range of color options for Apple’s upcoming iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro models.
The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max will reportedly be available in black, white, blue, red, and purple, while the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will be available in graphite, gold, silver, and purple. The purple option for the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro is said to be a unique finish that changes tint based on lighting conditions.
The post also claims that the iPhone 14 models will feature a new True Tone flash that looks like “a small circle within a large circle,” as opposed to the current design, which contains two small circles in two separate hemispheres LED.
In recent years, Apple has offered striking new color options in addition to more neutral shades when introducing new iPhone models. A purple option for the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro seems plausible, given that Apple introduced the purple iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini in last April’s mid-cycle update to positive customer response, along with the 24-inch iMac, and the sixth generation Both the iPad mini and the fifth-generation iPad Air are available in purple.
Assuming that the black and white options for the iPhone 14 in the post actually refer to Midnight and Starlight, the new color lineup will mean the discontinuation of pink and green for the iPhone 13 and Mountain Blue and Alpine Green for the iPhone 13 Pro. Excluding mid-term color additions like green and alpine green that came to the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro earlier this year, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro are rumored to be available in the same number of color options as their predecessors.
It’s unclear if the unique purple finish should actively change the kaleidoscope effect based on lighting conditions, or just use the technology behind the iPhone 13 Pro’s Sierra Blue, which has a more varied appearance than other color options. That’s because Apple has adopted a new production process specifically for Sierra Blue that uses “the application of multiple layers of nanoscale cermet to the surface for a stunning and durable finish.”
Overall, the choice of color options for the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro may look very similar to those for the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 13, and iPhone 13 Pro, with the reintroduction of a purple hue.
The rumors were widely followed on Twitter, and the information appeared to be mirrored by other unconfirmed posts on Weibo. Still, the post is from a source with no known records, and it’s unclear why it was removed, so it should be viewed with skepticism at this point.
