DLC

This week, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands released a new patch and new DLC. Often, this will encourage more gameplay and provide a reason to return for more farming. But for me, it had the opposite effect, and I thought it might be time for me to move on from the game as one of my “Farm Raiders” rotations.
First of all, the patch does something that I don’t particularly care about, which is to raise the Chaos level to a new maximum of 35, and put it in the That highest grade. It’s been two months since the game’s release, and I’m finally starting to find my best form in the Elite Chaos 20 quest, and have started to get serious about explosive weapons (which only drop at level 20).
Now?Feels like pulling the rug, like I do now other After I just finished level 20, I still have level 15 to hone in, and the top gear I’ve just started brushing on a few characters is now instantly out of the way.It doesn’t help either if only The farming you can do in Wonderland is run Chaos dungeons, because they basically don’t change regardless of Chaos level, so you’re just running the same map and the same enemies over and over. This is a far cry from the broader endgame campaign of Borderlands itself.

This week’s DLC may change that, but it backfired. I talked about this yesterday, but it’s some really bad DLC, which is pretty unusual for Gearbox, their Borderlands DLC is the best in the business.
Here, the new $10 Coiled Captors DLC is essentially just a bizarre new dungeon, a boss that has no mods and is easier than a dungeon (even if it gets harder over the next few weeks). The whole thing takes 7 to 10 minutes to run, and unlike Chaos Dungeons, there’s no big loot blast option at the end, just anything that drops from the boss (I don’t have anything) and some wheels spinning at the base to randomly hand out new loot.
Another problem is that the other four DLCs that come with the season pass will look more identical. More of these simple dungeons, possibly with new enemies and bosses, but the same concept. No story content, and a worse endgame farming cycle than the already existing Chaos Dungeons (and they’re repeating themselves). In short, I’ve hit a wall with this game, whether it’s all the new random Chaos levels being added all of a sudden, or knowing now that the rest of the season pass DLC won’t really be noteworthy since we’ve only seen Coiled Captors.
I’m not sad, I’ve had a lot of fun playing all three roles so far and have invested a lot of time. I am enjoying my time. But as a long-term study, if these were the type of post-launch updates, I’d probably call it a day. I’ll wait for the new stories in Borderlands 4 and Borderlands games.
