There’s a good chance Google’s long-rumored smartwatch will be called the “Pixel Watch.”The tech giant has filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to trademark “Pixel Watch” 9to5Google Report. In its filing, Google wrote that the name is intended to “cover the category of smartwatches,” “wearable computers of a smartwatch nature,” as well as smartwatch cases, straps, and straps.
The trademark application contains no other details about the device. But according to previous rumors and render leaks, the company’s first in-house developed smartwatch will feature a bezel-less circular dial. It’s also expected to have a heart rate sensor and other features found in Fitbit devices Google will buy in 2021. However, the device will reportedly cost more than Fitbit and will be a veritable Apple Watch competitor. It’s also expected to run Wear OS 3, the tech giant’s upcoming wearable platform that’s only available on a handful of current smartwatches.
Jon Prosser, known for leaking upcoming tech releases, has previously said that Google plans to unveil its first smartwatch on May 26. That sounds unlikely, as the date coincides with the tech giant’s annual I/O conference, usually held in May.However, as 9to5Google Noting that Google had to go through more regulatory hurdles before the device could launch. Since the device has not yet been spotted on FCC and Bluetooth SIG listings, a May 26 release may be premature.
