Sony has done such a poor job fleshing out the details of its new products PS Plus rating This shouldn’t really be the title, but we thought it was worth pointing out. With the new service due to launch in parts of Asia on May 23, the platform holder started emailing some of its customers overseas. Philippine website One More Game shared the above letter, which does contain some new information.
For starters, as expected, if you already have an existing PS plus Subscribers, you don’t need to do anything. You’ll be automatically transitioned to PS Plus Essential (which the organization describes as an “equivalent subscription plan”), and your overlay subscription period will remain the same. You will continue to enjoy the “same benefits” with no changes to prices or payment dates. Things will continue as usual.
However, you can choose to upgrade to PS Plus Extra or PS Plus Premium at any time. “To do this, you pay the difference between your current plan and your new plan, adjusted for your remaining subscription time,” the email explained. In other words, if you still have six months of PS Plus service, you can upgrade to a higher tier plan by paying the difference for the remainder.
It’s unclear if those who’ve subscribed for years might have to pay for multiple years at once, but Sony’s wording certainly suggests that. Of course, the company still needs to clarify a lot of things here, including the actual game lineup — and whether retro titles, like PS1 Classics, will include any quality-of-life updates. With the service coming soon, it couldn’t keep this information private for too long.
