Microsoft XDK has 40GB GDDR6 memory
Gamers Nexus purchased an Xbox Series X development kit, a special console designed for game development.

The development kit (also known as the XDK) acquired by Gamers Nexus is a 2020 version of the development kit featuring an AMD APU codenamed “Scarlett”. It is equipped with an 8-core AMD Zen2 architecture CPU and an RDNA “Navi” graphics processing unit with 56 compute units. These specifications may be the same for retail and development kits, but clock speeds may vary.
As confirmed by GN, the removed dev kit was not 16GB of GDDR6 RAM but 40GB, which may be why earlier Xbox Series X leaks mentioned higher capacities sometime before the console’s launch.

The XDK is equipped with 40GB of Samsung GDDR6 memory clocked at 14 Gbps. It is unclear if the memory is divided like a retail unit, which has three graphics pools (10GB @ 320-bit), system memory (3.5GB @ 192-bit) and operating system (2.5GB @ 192-bit).
Larger memory capacities are typically used for debugging, frame data analysis, or verbose logging. Developers can also use this memory to decompress game builds instead of resource overhead for pre-optimizing games, one of the game developers explained in the video comments section.
The Xbox Series Development Kit sells for around €1350 on eBay, but that price is only for the pre-banned version. Microsoft is well aware of the illegal sale of their consoles and makes sure these devices no longer work, even for offline gaming, which is why it’s crucial not to connect these devices to the internet. Samples purchased by GN have been pre-banned and therefore cannot be used for any gaming activity.
