At this point, Wordle needs no introduction, it went viral on the internet before being acquired by The New York Times for a seven-figure sum. We’re big fans of Wordle, a game that’s super easy and super addictive, but there’s a huge world of puzzle games beyond the familiar 5×6 letter grid.
Here, we’ll introduce you to some of our favorite alternatives, covering everything from math to geography. You may find something interesting on this list, whether you just want to take a break from Wordle or never want to play the original game again.

Redactle is a bit different from the norm, and we love its spin on the basic Wordle philosophy. The challenge here is to guess words that have been removed from random Wikipedia articles. It’s difficult at first because you don’t have much to do at all, but it gets easier as you fill in more words and can see what the article is about.

If you think Wordle is too simple, try Quordle. It follows the same idea as Wordle, it’s still based on five letter words, but this time there are four words to solve for a total of nine guesses – which adds a lot of extra complexity since you’re trying to keep track of four at the same time Different Wordles.

Swap words for sums with Nerdle, which lets you guess calculations in a Wordle-like fashion — and there’s always an equals sign somewhere. Like Wordle, you’ll get a hint on how close each guess is to the solution, albeit in slightly different colors. It’s a fun way to test or relearn your arithmetic skills.

For the faint of heart, we wouldn’t recommend Squardle. There’s a lot of instructions to digest, and a big board to work with, and you’ll get a whole bunch of clues to think about as you start guessing letters to build words. Wordle not only has yellow and green tiles, but also consider red, orange and black indicators.

We only recommend Semantle to those who really want to challenge themselves from Wordle-style puzzles. The idea is that you’re trying to guess a word based on how similar it is semantically to a previous guess, which definitely takes some getting used to. You also need to be able to think more laterally to get connections between words.

Heardle’s job is to make you guess a song from the intro: you can start in a second (if you get the song right away, great), and it can go up to 16 seconds. You can also skip the guesswork if you just want more time, though this counts as one of six attempts available for naming the track, which is taken from a database of popular songs.

Absurdle drags out the Wordle experience for longer. The basics of color coding are the same, but every time you guess wrong, the solution to the puzzle changes – you can try to guess right an infinite number of times. When you actually play it, it looks better than it looks from the description.

Wordle adds multiplayer, how about a battle royale element? That’s what you get in Squabble, which gives you two different versions to choose from and pushes you to guess your words under pressure from the clock and Squabble opponents. If you find the Wordle experience a little too slow and isolating, you can give it a try.

Waffles are one of the most popular and fun alternatives to Wordle. It takes its name from the game grid where you need to rearrange the letters given to you within 15 moves to form six words: three horizontal reads and three vertical reads. Apparently, if you’re smart enough, every waffle puzzle can be solved in 10 steps.

The equal and opposite power of Wordle is the evil Antiwordle, where the object of the game is to lose rather than win – which is actually harder to do than it sounds. If you guess a letter that isn’t included in the word, you won’t be allowed to use it in future guesses, which means your combination options shrink rapidly.

The extra L plays a big role here: Wordle becomes Worldle, and you have to try to guess the country from its outline. Instead of telling you which letters you guessed right in each guess, the feedback you get is how far away the correct answer is geographically from what you typed, so it’s great if you think you know your country .

Crossword is a combination of Wordle and Sudoku that reverses the normal process: you start with a Wordle that has been solved, and then you need to figure out the guessing screen that caused it based on the color of the tiles. It’s a game that will give you a whole new perspective on Wordle, even better than the original.
