Google is expected to announce Android 13 along with the Pixel 6a next month Google I / O 2022. Expected for the newer Android version, it will be possible to use two mobile lines with one eSIM.
- Android 13 will enable two different networks with one eSIM
- This will allow two different carriers to be used on the same eSIM
- The feature may require a new SoC to work.
According to a post by senior developer Esper, Android 13 will eventually bring the Most Enhanced Profiles (MEP). The new model allows to switch between different networks without the need for a second eSIM or additional SIM space.
This work was already anticipated because Google was filing a similar license in 2020 regarding the splitting of the SIM interface into two digital connections. Only this time, now we know how Google will implement Android.

The advantages of eSIM compared to a standard SIM card
From a technical point of view, implementing more efficient digital signage is a complex solution for chipmakers and network vendors. It may also need a new SoC that will support the MEP eSIM. However, the advantages of this feature will be very good since it will eliminate the space that includes physical card space and the compatibility of SIM card sizes.

The only problem with eSIM is that it may require additional steps and validation when exchanging phone numbers and moving to another device, whereas it is more convenient to have a physical SIM card inserted into any device.
