After being teased at The Game Awards last December, we finally got our first look at the VR version of Among Us gameplay during today’s Meta Quest game showcase. As you might imagine, the gameplay looks like VRChat meets a horror movie.
Throughout the trailer, the crew waved their arms and pointed virtual fingers at people they thought were imposters. We even had a brief moment where someone from the electrical company peeked into a corner to see if anyone was there, then cut in on an imposter hiding in a vent.
While Among Us is already a fun game, the VR version should offer a fresh perspective, bringing the best parts of the game into it while adding a new sense of tension and humor, which is what console and PC version is not possible.
Similar to the non-VR version, Among Us VR will allow you to play with up to 10 players. You play as a crew member or an impostor, the former hoping to complete all the missions around the map, and the latter trying to kill all the crew members without being detected.
Originally released in 2018, it took off in the early 2000s after content creators started streaming the game during the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown. As the game’s popularity soared, the developers decided to cancel the sequel and focus on continuing post-launch support for the original.
Among Us VR is scheduled to launch this holiday season. In addition to Meta Quest 2, it will also be available on Steam VR and PlayStation VR.
