What you need to know
- Assassin’s Creed VR for Quest 2 will reportedly be called Assassin’s Creed Nexus.
- Players will reprise the role of several different well-known assassins from the series’ past.
- The game contains 16 full missions with all the gameplay and stealth mechanics you’d expect from the series.
It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything about Assassin’s Creed VR, but the first leak sounds like what one hopes. Dubbed Assassin’s Creed Nexus, the game is said to allow players to literally fill the shoes of famous assassins from the series’ past, including Ezio Auditore, Cassandra, Connor, Haytham, and more.
Tom Henderson from Exputer said he saw the game firsthand and got a description of putting on a VR headset and playing everyone’s favorite assassin character in Ubisoft’s long-running series. Ubisoft posted a job opening for Assassin’s Creed VR back in January, and given that it didn’t show up at the Meta Quest game showcase earlier this week, the title likely won’t release until sometime in 2023 for the Oculus Quest 2 and possibly other VR headsets.
Since this is an Assassin’s Creed game, gameplay will consist of running around as stealthily as you can, climbing to the bottom of your heart, and figuring out unique ways to complete each mission. Players will be able to extend the Assassin’s Hidden Blade by holding the button and flicking the wrist. Proper stealth kills will result in instant eliminations, while failed attempts will require players to enter more complex combat scenarios, including sword fights.

During the 16 missions, players are said to be able to explore the world and find treasures, locked doors and other hidden areas in search of loot and other rewards, Henderson said. You can even pick locks, which should help with the interactive benefits of VR. Of course, in addition to the main objectives, which are sure to be filled with clever assassinations, interesting characters, and interesting plot points across multiple historical backgrounds.
Players will move around via controller joysticks or standard teleportation, whichever is most comfortable for the player. Since stealth is such a big part of the series, the developers have made sure it makes sense to teleport from the stealth paradigm. Teleport too close to the enemy and they will definitely hear you. Thankfully, if you do make a mistake, you’ll be able to run and hide, even jumping out of those infamous hay carts from buildings. All in all, this sounds like one of the best Quest 2 games ever made.
