Larian Studios has revealed that Baldur’s Gate 3 will officially exit Early Access and release in 2023.
Larian shared the news in a dev diary focused on “journey so far” during D&D Direct 2022. While it contains a few glimpses of the game, a tiefling cosplay, and a doctor who may or may not be a doctor, the big news in the video is confirmation that Baldur’s Gate 3 won’t be out of Early Access in 2022, and will instead be available in Official release in 2023.
“Through the Nine Hells, we’ve added a lot of great stuff, and there’s more coming from where,” Larian said. “So join us in early access to our Baldur’s Gate 3 journey, or join us when the game launches in 2023.”
In February, Swen Vincke, head of Larian Studios, said 2022 would be the last full year of development, but he left some wiggle room on whether it’s possible to implement it before our calendar moves to 2023. Now, it’s possible that the 2022 version no longer exists.
The Early Access version of Baldur’s Gate 3 was released in October 2020 and is packed with content. In our Baldur’s Gate 3 Early Access review, we said it “already has exciting turn-based combat and some real storytelling, but it might be worth waiting to enjoy the full thing with fresh eyes.”
