Still driven by Elden Ring, video game activity was the main reason for this increase, delivering a turnover of €657m (instead of €486m) and an operating profit of €215m (instead of €87m). Note that video games are only the second most lucrative activity for the Japanese group, as toys and derivatives bring in more revenue.
Bandai Namco released 11.4 million games in the quarter, compared to 10 million in the same period last year, while the number of different games released at the same time halved. Its target for the current fiscal year is to sell 43.5 million vehicles, down from 56.8 million the previous year. Normally, the latter ended with the sensational release of Elden Ring, which had sold 13.4 million copies worldwide as of March 31.
Bandai Namco Results
period | turnover | operating profit | net income |
---|---|---|---|
April 2021 – June 2021 | 1.3 billion euros | 198.2 million euros | 153.4 million euros |
April 2022 – June 2022 | 1.5 billion euros | 325.7 million euros | 271.6 million euros |
Given these strong results, Bandai Namco has raised its target for the first half (April 2022 to September 2022) with a projected turnover of EUR 3.1 billion (instead of EUR 2.9 billion) and an operating profit of EUR 528 million (instead of EUR 337 million). Why not raise the forecast for the entire fiscal year? Mainly due to certain uncertainties, such as a possible delay of a major title, a possible re-emergence of the pandemic or fluctuations in exchange rates. Because yes, in addition to good game sales, Bandai Namco’s profits have also been boosted by the current weakness in the yen and the resulting currency gains.
