The respected Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman (from iMore) said last year’s iPhone 13 series wasn’t much of an upgrade over its predecessor, but this year’s iPhone 14 series could be even more exciting. Gurman reiterated many of the predictions we’ve heard before, such as the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max will be massive upgrades over their predecessors, and the overall look of the new phones will be the same as the outgoing models. Reporters confirmed reports that the 5.4-inch Mini model has been retired in favor of the 6.7-inch Max model. He also believes in rumors that the 6.1-inch iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max will inherit last year’s A15 Bionic chip — which, by the way, isn’t far behind and is clearly ahead of the chip that powers the best Android phones. Today – while the 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro and 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max will feature the new A16 chip, which will reportedly be based on a more advanced 4nm manufacturing process, which will make it faster and more power-efficient. It is also highly likely that it will have a pill cutout for the Face ID biometric system and a hole cutout for the front camera, while the regular model will retain the notch.
He also backed up rumors that the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max will feature a new 48MP primary sensor, which is apparently the reason for their larger camera bumps. The 48MP wide-angle unit is said to be larger than the 12MP camera it replaces, and the lens is also roughly 5% to 10% taller.
Satellite connectivity is also available across the range, which will allow the phone to send messages and SOS alerts over the satellite network. According to earlier reports, all models will feature a new front-facing camera capable of producing sharper, brighter images, and finally, Apple may introduce some new colors, including a new shade of purple that changes depending on the light tone.
The iPhone 14 series may be released in September.
