As it becomes safer to move your weekly Dungeons & Dragons games from your computer back to your desktop, virtual tools like Roll20 will continue to be an option. But it’s also time for DMs to start thinking about physical maps and miniatures again. Luckily, Wizards of the Coast has you covered in today’s D&D Direct event.

Feast your eyes on campaign cases. These two kits give you everything you need to lay out 2D maps and environments. Creatures Case includes 64 customizable markers in three sizes (and four colors) with a nice mix of markers that look like 1, 2, and 3 inches, representing D&D’s small, medium, and large creatures. The case comes with 159 illustrations and reusable stickers that are sized to match and cover everything from kobolds to ochre hulks to dragons.

The Terrain Case has 30 interlocking tiles, as well as a larger collapsible map that looks about 22 x 18 inches or so. Double-sided tiles and maps show grass on one side and snow on the other. The Terrain Case comes with the same type of reusable stickers as the Creature Case, representing things like campfires, trees, and giant bird nests. The announcement makes no mention of whether maps and tiles are suitable for dry erasing.
Both cases come in a travel-ready souvenir box with compartments for various components and a handle. Pricing was not mentioned during the demo, but the active case will be released on July 19. Pre-orders begin today.
