Finding a job is a combat sport and a matter of quantity. Research shows that it takes an average of 21 to 80 applications to secure a position, compared to about 250 applications for a standard job offer at a company.
Then, sometimes you may turn down many job offers right from the start because you doubt yourself after reading the job description. “I don’t know what to do, I don’t have the skills”. Imposter syndrome, lack of self-confidence, stress, in short, you don’t dare to take the risk and move on.
Don’t worry, it happens to everyone. But sometimes it can be a bug. A study of HR professionals found that 42% of the resumes they received were from candidates who didn’t meet the job requirements. But that hasn’t deterred them, with 84% of HR respondents saying their companies would be willing to hire employees whose skills can be developed through training.
This observation is echoed by big tech companies like CRM giant Hubspot, “Lack of trust and imposter syndrome can prevent us from meeting great candidates, so don’t hesitate – we’d love to hear from you.”
Research on the matter shows that while men and women tend to browse jobs in the same way, they apply for jobs differently. Female job seekers believe they must meet 100% of the criteria to submit an application, while male job seekers only apply when they meet about 60% of the job requirements.
But women are more likely than they think. Another study found that women were 16% more likely than men to be hired after applying for a job, and 18% more likely to be hired for permanent positions.
What is the conclusion? Apply, even if you think you don’t meet all the criteria – the data is right there with you. Below, we offer three jobs worth checking out.
