An Elden Ring fan is traveling back 30 years with the Game Boy demake of FromSoftware’s open-world hit.
Twitch user shintendoTV is live-streaming the game’s development after announcing their plans in a Reddit post (below), where they say the game will be designed to run on real hardware – presumably the Analogue Pocket or something, not the original Game Boy .
While they’re currently not sure how much of the game they’ll be recreating (since Elden Ring is really big), Xintiandao at least wants to make a full open area of Limgrave.
This demake was made in GB Studio 3.0, which Shintendo calls “a truly impressive new piece of software”, which itself is still in development.
This means that some features, such as enemy pathfinding (enemies chasing the player) are not yet available, but Xintiandao hopes to have a playable version of Limgrave and a demo by the end of May.
The demake will feature iconic locations and characters from Elden Ring, including Elleh Church, where players will meet Melina, who simply asks, “Aren’t there any maidens?”
Xintiandao said in the livestream that there is “no real plan” behind the development, but they will just make tiles one by one, each with pixel art versions of various parts of Elden Ring.
This isn’t the only FromSoftware game demake made by fans of the series, the Bloodborne PlayStation 1 demake is probably the most famous example. Developer Lilith Walther even announced a spinoff in the form of Bloodborne Karts.
It’s the latest wacky way players choose to enjoy Elden Ring. A player named Let Me Solo Her let himself be called endlessly against one of the game’s toughest bosses, and a speedrunner has now beaten the game in less than seven minutes.

In our 10/10 review, IGN said: “Elden Ring is FromSoftware’s massive iteration from the Souls series, bringing its relentlessly challenging combat to an incredible open world that gives us the freedom to choose ourselves path of.”
