Arise ye Tarnished, someone is giving everyone’s favorite game Elden Ring a Game Boy makeover and livestreaming the development. This demake is just the latest development in an apparent trend in From Software games, we also released Bloodborne PSX a few months ago.
According to IGN, shintendo first announced their demake via the Elden Ring subreddit, where they posted a clip of an open area and boss fight designed to kill players and send them to the game’s actual tutorial. The short video also features the cutest dodge ever, and ends with the aforementioned death, followed by text from a Twitch channel promoting shintendo. There they intend to show how they developed Elden Ring for actual Game Boy hardware and archive it on their Youtube channel.

In the comments below the Reddit post, shintendo clarified that they are using software called GB Studio 3.0 to accomplish this huge feat. Being so huge, shintendo has yet to determine the scope of the project, but did say they “hope to have the Limgrave area at least by the end of May”.
Hours after sharing the clip, shintendo went live on Twitch where they showed off more work on the game’s open area, as well as designing sprites for NPC Varre called Player’s No Virgin and fan-favorite witch Ranni. According to their comments on Reddit , shintendo hopes to release a demo on Itch at the end of May, seemingly after they finish Limgrave.
Until then, you’ll probably all be content with the real Elden Ring, which we give full marks as “a masterpiece of open-world design that puts exploration and player agency at the heart of the experience.” If you’re just jumping into it , we also have plenty of guides to help you find your footing on your adventure through Lands Between.
