If you thought it was only a matter of time before Psyonix added a battle royale game in sync with its parent company, Epic Games Rocket League…your belief is well founded. Psyonix is rolling out a limited-time knockout mode that ditches the usual vehicular football in favor of the last mechanic familiar from Battle Royale. Eight players try to survive by attacking each other and staying within a shrinking “safety zone”.this sounds familiar Fortnite fans, but Rocket LeagueThe view includes some important twists.
For example, the player will only leave after being knocked down 3 times. Don’t worry, you won’t be picking up guns – instead ramming, blocking attacks, and even throwing them across the arena. Hazards like spikes and potential laser grids cause instant knockdowns, and the six-minute mark activates a “sudden KO” phase, where the attack is more powerful and leaving the safe zone results in instant death.
Your abilities will also change. You now lock the camera on the opponent instead of the (non-existent) ball. You can jump faster, jump longer, you’ll have more boost and more dodge.
Knockout Bash will be available from April 27th to May 10th, with three maps dedicated to this free battle.Twitch viewers will also receive a special player banner if they watch certain content Rocket League Streamer when the mode starts. Not sure if Psyonix will revive Battle Royale at a later date, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see a comeback if the event is successful.
