Garmin has officially launched the Vivosmart 5, which replaces the Vivosmart 4 launched in 2018. The wait may be worth it, as the Vivosmart 5 brings significant improvements, including a larger OLED touchscreen, real-time tracking and sensing events.
- Garmin Vivosmart 5 Officially Released and Brings a Larger OLED Screen
- It has major other novelties, emergency reporting and real-time monitoring
- Vivosmart 5 for €149.99
Bigger and smarter, at least that’s how we described the Garmin Vivosmart 5 leaked earlier this month. The Vivosmart 5’s OLED grayscale touchscreen is now 66 percent larger than its predecessor. Despite the increase in screen size, the Garmin retained 7 days of battery life (normal use) with Pulse Ox sleep tracking turned off.

Despite the increased overall weight of the device, Garmin says its fitness tracker is still comfortable to wear, and you can easily swap out the straps. The Vivosmart 5 straps are available in black, mint and white. If you have big wrists, there’s an even bigger option. No matter the size, the Vivosmart 5 is waterproof and suitable for pool swimming and outdoor cycling.
Vivosmart 5 now integrates sleep score and emergency alerts
In terms of fitness tracking, new additions to the Vivosmart 5 are sleep scores and 24/7 breathing rate tracking, commonly found on Garmin smartwatches like the Venu 2 Plus or Epix 2. In addition, it includes a range of common monitoring features such as body battery, stress and hydration levels, heart rate and menstruation. However, Garmin has discontinued the barometric altimeter sensor.

In addition to smart notifications, Garmin has added security and tracking features to the Vivosmart 5 using the smartphone’s GPS. This feature will send emergency SOS assistance alerts and real-time location to authorities if an accident is detected during certain activities. The Vivosmart 5 also has a calendar widget that its predecessor lacked.
The Garmin Vivosmart 5 is on sale on the Garmin website for €149.99. At other retailers like Amazon, it’s available for pre-order.
