At the conclusion of today’s Meta Quest Gaming Showcase 2022, Meta announced today that a new VR game set in the Ghostbusters universe is in development.
Ghostbusters VR is set in San Francisco, and players run their own Ghostbusters as they solve supernatural mysteries. According to the press release, the upcoming title will serve as a “new chapter in the Ghostbusters universe,” rather than being based on the previous IP.
While you can fight the paranormal on your own, Ghostbusters VR will also offer the option to team up with friends, where you can venture out and save Van Francisco from ghosts in the game’s campaign with up to 3 players.
Ghostbusters VR will allow players to fend off ghosts using the series’ famous and iconic equipment. This includes the Proton Pack, the Ghostbusters’ main tool for catching ghosts. nDreams, the developers behind Phantom: Covert Ops and Far Cry VR: Dive Insanity, were tasked with developing Ghostbusters VR, with Sony Pictures VR serving as the game’s publisher.
Ghostbusters VR doesn’t currently have a release date, though Meta promises to share more information about the game in the coming months. However, Oculus executive producer Ruth Bram mentioned during the livestream earlier today that the games highlighted during the event are scheduled to launch next year.
