On Android, the Google Messages app is currently experiencing a bug where its built-in camera will abnormally drain the battery. In this tutorial, kwgeek will show you how to fix this until Google releases a fix.
Are you using Google Messages on your smartphone? If so, you may have noticed a significant reduction in battery life recently. If so, it could be due to Google Messages, or more specifically the in-app camera. It’s actually a useful tool that lets you quickly take and send photos right within the app.

However, there is currently a bug in the app that prevents the camera from turning off. The image, or rather the camera window, is definitely closed, but the feature remains active and keeps opening. This affects battery life and can also cause the smartphone to overheat.
Google hasn’t announced an official fix for the issue, but it should be soon. In the meantime, there is a simple and obvious solution that will allow you to correct this problem.

You just need to deauthorize the app to access the camera, this can be done by following these steps:
- Enter Google Messages app information (long press the app icon and tap about or go to the app in settings).
- press permission then on camera
- Choose an option not allowed
- Press OK again in the opened window not allowed
That’s it! This will remove the app’s permission to use the camera. This is a good temporary solution until Google releases a fix for this bug.
