It took a few tweaks before Google made Android Auto smoother and less problematic. The company says the next update to its in-vehicle infotainment software will get rid of cumbersome letterboxes on some outdated screens. What’s more, Android Auto will be completely overhauled in terms of interface and functionality.
In the next iteration, the biggest changes will be in the user interface. The default view will now display three sizes of rectangular widgets, including the main one for navigation and two others for media players and communications. A static bar with shortcut icons and status is also located below or to the left, depending on your car’s screen size or orientation.

In particular, users can now share their estimated time of arrival with their contacts when further tapping the navigation menu. The communication widget will act as an expanded view with equivalent buttons or calendar and time items. Commands can also be sent on the floating card that appears when receiving a text message or phone call.
Aside from a “summer” release, Google didn’t specify an exact date.
