A new trademark application appears to confirm the obvious name
By all accounts, Google’s first smartwatch looks almost ready to debut.After years of uncertainty, speculation and no shortage of rumors, it finally feels like everything is in place and nothing stands still Official-Officially, the speed and quality of recent leaks could easily lead us to believe that a Google I/O (or at least shortly thereafter) release is a possibility. Now, some of the strongest evidence of that theory may have just emerged, as Google filed for the “Pixel Watch” trademark.
While we’ve been calling Google’s putative wearable the Pixel Watch for a while now, that’s really nothing more than a very descriptive feeling, an easy guess. While we wouldn’t be all that surprised to see the company end up with a different name, this trademark filing seems to make clear Google’s intentions.

The company filed its application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on April 19 (spotted by 9to5Google), although the filing states that Google has an earlier international application pending in the island nation of Tonga from last fall. Google has filed for trademark protection under the watch and smartwatch product category, which is exactly what we expect to see from this device.
While “Pixel Watch” does look like the name the wearable will eventually debut, we’ve been keeping an eye on its codename Rohan-related development — don’t be surprised if you see the name reappear a few times -Minute leaks arrived in the weeks leading up to release. Google I/O kicks off on May 11, and we certainly wouldn’t be surprised if the Pixel Watch makes an appearance.
