Baldur’s Gate 3 certainly won’t be released this year.
That’s according to a new developer update from Larian Studios, which has now definitively confirmed that the highly-anticipated game won’t be opening early until 2023, confirming what Larian founder and BG3 creative director Swen Vincke told Eurogamer earlier. Implied content year.

In a short three-minute video – aired as part of the 2022 D&D Direct and titled “Baldur’s Gate 3 – The Journey So Far” – the team reviews Baldur’s Gate 3’s progress so far, stating that “continue to become more good, better”. It also finally gives away any lingering hope that the full game might be released in 2022.
“Through the Nine Hells, we’ve added a lot of great stuff, and there’s more coming from where,” Larian said. “So join us in early access to our Baldur’s Gate 3 journey, or join us when the game launches in 2023.”
Some had hoped that Vincke’s comments that Larian “now sees the light at the end of the tunnel” and had a “very concrete plan” earlier this year meant we possible We’ve seen the late 2022 version, but it looks like we’ll have to stick with the Early Access version for now.
