Neither a trivial press release prepared by Games Industry nor an interview with Klemens Kundratitz (pictured) offered any major revelations about the change, other than a simple desire to revamp and reflect the growth of the company founded in 1994. These two families of development studios (Volition, Fishlabs, DigixArt…), are home to many publishers (Sega, SNK, Koei Tecmo…) and publishing brands (Deep Silver, Prime Matter, Ravenscourt, Milestone and Vertigo Games) of game distributors, Plaion is one of the first major acquisitions of the Embracer Group (€120 million at the beginning of 2018). Plaion also has a film distribution division called Plaion Pictures, but video games remain a major part of its business, as its new name (Play-On) reflects. Plaion today has a team of 2,300 people, including 1,600 developers. This figure is thanks to acquisitions made since it became part of the Embracer family, notably Vertigo Games, Warhorse Studios, Flying Wild Hog or Free Radical Design.
