Apple has released a new version 2.7 firmware update for its MagSafe battery packs to charge your iPhone faster. It now offers 7.5W of charging power, up from 5W before the update.
To get 7.5W charging on the go, update your MagSafe battery pack to the latest firmware. Once the battery pack is connected to the iPhone, the firmware update will start automatically. Firmware updates take about a week.
While a week of updates is quite a long time, there is a faster way to update.
To update the firmware using your Mac or iPad, plug one end of the Lightning to USB cable into the Lightning connector on the battery pack and the other end into the Mac or iPad. The firmware update takes about 5 minutes.
MagSafe battery packs are compatible with the iPhone 12 and 13 series. Released in July 2021, it’s not one of Apple’s most popular accessories. Due to its chunky size, iPhone users are disappointed that it can only charge at 5W. However, it’s somewhat popular among iPhone 12 Mini users, as the device’s biggest complaint is its short battery life. Overall, charging is still faster with a good ‘ole 20W power adapter, but the MagSafe battery pack is a great option for users on the go.
You can find your current firmware version by going to your iPhone settings, then General, About, MagSafe Battery Pack.
