Infinity Ward looks set to reveal the sequel to 2019’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
On Friday, Activision Studios social mediachange its profile picture and header picture to something that initially looks completely dark.
When enhanced, however, the image shows what appears to be the silhouette of the fan-favorite character Ghost, who first appeared in 2009’s original Modern Warfare 2:
Activision confirmed this year’s Call of Duty sequel will be the Modern Warfare sequel earlier this year, following several reports on the project.
As first reported by VGC, the campaign of Modern Warfare 2 will revolve around the drug war against the Colombian cartel.
Sources say the single-player story is “a grittier take on the Modern Warfare 2019 campaign,” with more close quarter combat, tricky decision-making, and the classic Call of Duty positioning moments fans have come to expect.
According to people familiar with the developer’s plans, Modern Warfare 2 will launch alongside a new map for Warzone: the third new arena for the Battle Royale spinoff.

It is said that the new MW2 Warzone map will consist of a variety of classic points of interest, like those based on Modern Warfare 2019’s Verdansk and Caldera, which launched shortly after Vanguard last year.
Finally, Infinity Ward’s Warzone map will have a second purpose: to accommodate Modern Warfare 2’s third mode, which sources describe as a mix of PvP and PvE, similar to Battlefield 2042’s Danger Zone.
The unnamed game mode, said to have been in the works for several years, is expected to see players team up with friends against cartel AI as they attempt to complete objective-based quests in the same MW2 Warzone map.
According to a recent report, Activision decided to delay the 2023 Call of Duty game, marking the first time in nearly 20 years that it has skipped an annual release.
