The Google Assistant for the Galaxy Watch 4 should appear in the next Samsung system update, or at least be supported.
renew: Samsung told 9to5Google This afternoon, it “has nothing to share” about the Galaxy Watch 4 update detailed by Verizon. Google also told us that Assistant hasn’t launched Samsung’s Wear OS-powered wearables, and the company “has no updates to share at this time.”
At this point, it’s clear that Verizon released the changelog ahead of time, and Assistant isn’t ready yet.
According to Verizon (h/t Droid-Life), today (April 20, 2022) a software update for the Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic brings Google Assistant. The changelog demonstrates how to turn on Assistant from the Settings app > Google > Assistant. Options include enabling “Hey Google” detection and “Voice output”.
Carriers say you need to download Google Assistant to show up in preferences. Google has previously said it will be available for download through the Play Store. As of this afternoon, we haven’t seen the Playlist, but our wearables haven’t received the update, which could be a requirement.
At the same time, this update also brings the “backup and restore” function through Smart Switch.
If you want to pair your watch with a new phone, you can now use Smart Switch on your phone to back up and restore your watch experience.
The body composition goal notification also has a “Measure” button.
Verizon says the next Galaxy Watch 4 update has the following build numbers:
- watch 4
- 40mm: R865USQU1FVC8
- 44mmR875USQU1FVC8
- watch 4 classics
- 42mm: R885USQU1FVC8
- 46mm: R895USQU1FVC8
Samsung has yet to confirm the update on its changelog.
Google detailed a new Assistant design with the Pixel’s light bar and faster responsiveness in February, while Samsung at the time said it was still “several months away.” This update and availability is definitely coming sooner than expected.
