Based on real images from yesterday, people who currently own a Pixel Watch are doing a Reddit AMA (ask me anything) about the Google wearable leak and revealing more hands-on details like dimensions.
With plenty of physical hardware leaks, curiosity now turns to the UI experience and what Google’s Wear OS 3 version will look like. The only software picture we got from the leak is the “G” splash screen. This photo was taken “a few weeks” ago, and the Pixel Watch is now completely dead.
Reddit user tagtech414 tried “2 qi chargers and Power Share for Samsung Fold 3” and a Pixel 6 to revive it, but “the charger detected it temporarily, then stopped”. Since it would be odd that the Pixel Watch doesn’t support the battery-sharing feature on Pixel phones, it’s possible that Google is just limiting charging on this prototype to a specific internal power source.
On the hardware side, this AMA reveals that the Pixel Watch is “about 1/2″ thick and about 1 1/2” in diameter. That’s about 12.7mm and 38.1mm, respectively. We should soon have a Redditor going to measure the leak with digital calipers Get the exact Pixel Watch size.
By comparison, the 40mm Galaxy Watch 4 is 40.4 x 39.3 x 9.8mm thick, excluding the health sensor, and the Apple Watch Series 7 is 10.7mm deep.
On the back, you’ll see (Latin) text on the periphery that looks like it could be used as a placeholder during the prototype stage.
The bulbous rear is said to be “very rounded so there is less contact with the wrist,” while the u/tagtech414 gives the Pixel Watch a “very premium” feel. They also compared the bottom hat-shaped crown and the buttons above it to the Apple Watch and said it “feels exactly the same.”
There is a rather large flat pusher above the crown, which snaps into place. Good tight low-travel click. Very similar to the Apple Watch.
Meanwhile, there’s a button at the strap connection that appears to grab and lock the strap.
yes! They push in and there seems to be a small lip under each button so the band should grab and lock. I’ll test when I get the band.
There’s also a new photo of a speaker grill on the left, with a hole for the microphone (or altimeter) above it. Another leaked image helps determine the boundaries of the display and the thickness of the Pixel Watch’s bezel. It doesn’t seem too intense.
