Qualcomm wants to respond to criticism over heat issues related to its latest SoC, Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. The manufacturer is reportedly working on newer chips, including a cheaper one and above all, which is a little hot.
- Qualcomm will announce two Snapdragon chipsets in May.
- Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 is the second SoC with octa-core processor.
- A more powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus may also appear.
Rumors suggest that a mid-range (flagship?) Flagship chipset, dubbed the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, is in the works. This chipset will provide an eight-core CPU similar to the Snapdragon 8G1, but with four 2.36GHz ARM Cortex-A710. 8G1’s Cortex-X2 super core is discarded. In addition to the basic helmets, there are four Cortex-A55s each clocked at 1.8 GHz.
The new chipset will be produced using the same 4nm process and will have a new Adreno 662 GPU. We assume that it will have better heat dissipation while it is less powerful than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 considering the low clock speed of the basic course. Qualcomm can set up mid-range smartphones and will compete with MediaTek’s Dimensity 8000 and 8100.
Another SoC expected to be announced next month is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus. There are no specific details available for this chip, but it can be assumed that it will be faster than the current Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, and hopefully it will work better in terms of heat management. ).
Which smartphones are compatible with Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 and 8 Gen 1 Plus?
Chinese manufacturers are likely to be the first to offer smartphones running the next two Qualcomm chipsets. The undisclosed OnePlus 10 Ultra can come in June or July with Dimensity 9000 or Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+.
It is safe to say that we will also see several Xiaomi smartphones in the second half of the year that can use Snapdragon chips. Finally, Samsung will also be holding its annual unofficial August event which is likely to bring us the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4, at least partially powered by Snapdragon chips.
Would you consider a smartphone equipped with Dimensity technology, knowing the current problems with heat and battery life caused by Snapdragon 8 Gen 1?
