The Final Fantasy VI merchandise jumped from our seats in excitement. The beloved sixth entry in the storied Final Fantasy series — which celebrates its 35th anniversary this year — has received little attention from Square Enix.Despite a successful PC and mobile remaster earlier this year as part of the Pixel Remaster series, we Desperately Want to be on Switch.
Well, maybe there’s a reason Final Fantasy VI doesn’t have a lot of merchandise — because of a big celebration. Square Enix has unveiled an ornate statue of Terra, one of the game’s protagonists, clad in Magitek armor. It’s a recreation of the game’s iconic logo, crafted in stunning detail. Feast your eyes on:

Now, let’s share a machine translation of a tweet that reveals something dizzying.
SQEX MASTERLINE FFVI is priced at 1.485 million yen (tax included),
Scheduled to be released on July 28, 2023,
Limited to 600 pieces worldwide (150 of them in Japan).
※The allocation for each country may change depending on the order status.
※ The reservation will end as soon as the production quantity is reached.
You read that right – the statue is worth nearly 1.5 million yen. This means that this green-haired Terra Branford rides majestically on Magitek armor, like she does at the start of the game on the snowy field outside Narshe, like on the game’s logo, and will cost you nearly $12,000. or Exceed £9,000 (Yes, we realize the joke is there. Not this time.). We are crying. you are crying. All our wallets are crying.
If you really can afford it, there are only 600 available, so you might want to grab one. We are jealous if we can. We want one for the office.
Look, Square Enix, this is a excellent statue, but if Final Fantasy series creator Hironobu Sakaguchi thinks it’s too expensive, maybe it’s too expensive (thanks for the translation, @Cheesemeister3k! ):
Hironobu Sakaguchi: “Yes, no. Even compared to the cost of making a diorama for Fantasian. Isn’t that a bit much? How are you, Square Enix?” https://t.co/1OSOvf63u9 — Cheesemeister 😷💉💉💉 (@Cheesemeister3k) April 24, 2022
To celebrate the opening of pre-orders for the statue, Square Enix interviewed the man who designed the original logo for the statue, world-renowned serial artist Yoshitaka Amano, and asked him what he thought of the statue. His first impression of the artwork was “wow, it really exists”. The artist also talks about his work on the legendary Super Nintendo RPG and how he applies his knowledge of science fiction work outside the Final Fantasy brand to this steampunk-inspired adventure.
Terra is a rare example of a mid-90s female protagonist, though it’s a question of who real Final Fantasy VI’s protagonist is often debated, and it’s undeniable that Terra is at the heart of the game and one of the most iconic characters in the franchise.
You can see how big this statue really is from the video – just imagine how much that thing weighs! That explains why Amano wanted to show the statue — we’re assuming he got one, given what he says in the video — somewhere everyone can enjoy. But he also wanted to store it safely. So he wants two?
This is a beautiful reproduction of an iconic artwork, every little detail of Magitek is perfectly captured. There’s even a little Mog cameo, maybe a reference to Western SNES box art?
sigh. Well, we can at least appreciate it from a distance. Maybe someone could create a Square Enix museum to display these statues?
