But either way, we especially remember that a normal visual novel set in the Japanese countryside finds itself adapted in an unlikely way to an American film. So don’t look for the Shimane scenery in this trailer, or even the silhouette of Aya Fumino, whose movements have shifted to another rural corner on the other side of the Pacific Ocean.
If Max becomes Carlos and Aya is called Sarah here, the themes are still similar to the visual novel’s smash hit story (over 500,000 copies sold). Namely a young man set out to find his correspondent who disappeared after leaving a message that she would kill someone. Carlos then meets the young girl’s former comrades in arms, all of whom seem to be keeping a secret about their relationship with the missing woman.
Produced by Ammo Entertainment rather than the originally announced Akatsuki Entertainment USA, the Sonja O’Hara-directed film will premiere in select theaters on September 1, and will also be available on-demand on select platforms. The main cast includes Danny Ramirez (Top Gun: Maverick), Kiana Marie (Dash and Lily), Marc Saint Cyr (High School Musical) and Lydia Hirst (Z nation).
