As a reminder, Emma Majo considers her a victim of unfair dismissal as she denounces what she sees as a culture of discrimination against her and women in general. Attorneys for Sony Interactive Entertainment defended the allegations, asking the court to dismiss the complaint on the grounds that it was not based on any proven facts. For now, that’s also the opinion of Federal Judge Laura Beeler, who dismissed 10 of the former employee’s 13 charges, including those related to wage discrimination and harassment.
In the Judiciary’s view, Emma Majo’s complaint did not provide enough specific details and facts to support her arguments, particularly with regard to alleged gender pay inequality. “The complainant did not describe her job or how she did essentially the same job as any male allegedly paid more than her“, the judge noted.
However, Emma Majo can go ahead and sue PlayStation on three counts, including wrongful dismissal. The complainant explained that she was fired in 2021 after filing a sex discrimination complaint with the company, so the company would retaliate. The judge also continued to focus on a possible accumulation of testimony in the same direction as the complainant, who was supported by eight other former PlayStation employees last March.
From the moment the complaint no longer came exclusively from Emma Majo, Sony Interacive Entertainment announced that it took the testimony of its former employees seriously. “Sony Interactive Entertainment values its employees and takes proactive steps to ensure they have the opportunity to thrive and be heard“, defending the company.
