Transmission Publishing Company Announces Eyes in the Dark: The Curious Case of a Victoria Bloom Today at PAX East 2022, the first trailer for the sleek new “roguelight” from developer Under the Stairs was unveiled.
Players will take on the role of Victoria Bloom, a young girl searching for her missing grandfather in the dark and haunted hallways of her home. Armed with a flashlight and slingshot, Victoria must navigate the ever-changing layout of Bloom Manor and fend off terrifying creatures as they try to restore light to the mansion.
Featuring a range of light-based weapons including shotgun bulbs and matches, hidden upgrades, and a monochromatic art style reminiscent of Gothic adams familyUnder the Stairs director Vladimir Bogdanić said in a press release that neither playthrough will be the same, and that the game offers players a variety of experiences battling the forces of darkness.
“Eyes in the Dark creates an atmosphere of loneliness and isolation, while giving you the tools to finally break free from the experience of being a stronger person,” game designer Filip Neduk said in the same release. “Victoria’s ordeal—traversing the mansion alone and facing her fears—reflects the player’s need to learn and master game mechanics in order to progress; you go through this adventure together.”
