Forget the movies and endless spinoffs – Sega knows you want to replay the classic 2D Sonic the Hedgehog game, and it’s ready to deliver.The company has announced its sonic origin The series will debut on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Switch on June 23. The $40 (£33) Standard Edition will include Sonic the Hedgehog 1, 2, Sonic 3 and Knuckles and Sonic CDwhile the $45 (£37) Digital Deluxe Edition adds hard quests, exclusive music and cosmetics.
Each game has graphics and other “enhancements” remastered for modern hardware. You can play all of them as originally intended (including the old aspect ratio), but you can also try out features and modes never available on the Genesis or Mega Drive. You can play as Sonic, Tails, or Knuckles in any game, and “Anniversary Mode” brings infinite life to widescreen proportions. You can unlock content by completing tasks to earn medals.
This will not satisfy perfectionists.Where is the classic 32X remake Knuckle Chaos, Sega? But if you can forgive the oversight, it’s probably the easiest way to indulge your nostalgia or introduce your kids to other iconic platformers of the 16-bit generation.
