2K and Gearbox Software have announced the first of four DLCs for their hilarious shooter Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, Coiled Captors, which launches on April 21. It was two days before Shakespeare’s birthday – surely that’s a sign of quality storytelling?
Forsooth, Coiled Captors is actually a replayable dungeon with an old god named erm, the boss of Chums. Not as intimidating as Cthulhu or Dagon, but that’s okay. Chum has been trapped inside the sea wolf’s massive body for centuries, old chap, he’s a little introverted about it. In fact, he was so incensed that in the first few weeks of his release, he would become an increasingly obnoxious form.
Chums has four forms and is scheduled to be released on April 21st and 28th at 5:30pm / 9:30am PDT, then May 5th and finally May 12th. 2K states that dates and times may still change. You need to beat Chums’ previous form to experience the next one when you accept him. Other enemies in the dungeon start at level 13 and expand from there with your level of Fate.
Your Destiny Creator will need to travel to Brighthoof in the Overworld and find the Dream Screen Overlook to access the first of about four Mysterious Mirrors operated by Vesper. Challenge Mirrors of Mystery to earn Lost Souls to spend on the Wheel of Fortune in Dreamveil Overlook, so remember: Points win prizes. Namely some frontier…well, wonderland’s never-ending weapons and gear.
Indeed, what got me interested in taking on close friends was that it was an Iron Man situation. Dying once against a close friend means you’re out and have to replay the dungeon. 2K says the other three DLCs coming soon are Glutton’s Gamble, Molten Mirrors, and Shattering Spectreglass, and we’ll no doubt learn more about them regularly.
Brendan wasn’t too keen on the base game in his Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands review. “The longer I chased the next bazooka, the more hollow I felt, and the aimless humor just pushed me further,” he thought. Maybe the various forms of development challenges for Chums will make things more exciting for Coiled Captors? A chance to dream.
Coiled Captors will be available as part of Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands season pass for £25/€30/$30, and the entire shebang is currently limited to the ol’ Epic Game Store. It will also be available in the Chaos Large Edition and sold separately, though pricing for the latter was not detailed.
