The SD card slot is back on the MacBook Pro for the 2021 iteration, which means it’s only a matter of time before we start seeing MacBook-tailored SD cards hitting store shelves again. Today, in a gadget that we’ve seen before but has increased relevance to recent events, Transcend is announcing a new 1TB SD card for the MacBook: the JetDrive Lite 330.
The idea is that you can put this device into the SD slot of a MacBook Pro and it will fit in there. The color is just right, it doesn’t spoil the overall look, the size is right, and it doesn’t add anything extra for the most part.
The video below is convincing:
The device is currently on sale at Amazon for $249.99. So let’s do a quick math: Upgrading a MacBook Pro model from 1TB of onboard storage to 2TB costs $400, which means you’re saving $150 and just buy one of the bad boys, put it in SD slot and forget about it. Of course, this assumes that you don’t often need the SD slot for anything else. If that sounds like you, this might be a reasonable deal.
In terms of direct specifications, the JetDrive offers R/W speeds of 95/75 MB/s and is manufactured with COB (Chip On Board) technology. You can also use it on earlier MacBook Pro models (Late 2012-Early 2015).
