A new generation of Apple Watch should appear soon. Apple’s new connected watch will be released under watchOS 9, a new version of the smartwatch operating system. In this article, kwgeek shows you which Apple Watches will receive the update.
Since WWDC 2022, we’ve had an idea of what the watchOS 8 successor will look like on the Apple Watch. If you’re wondering how the operating system has changed since last year, you can already install the beta version of watchOS 9. We expect the new Apple Watch Series 8 to be unveiled alongside the next iPhone in early September. All new Apple Watches will run watchOS 9. But not all older models will be able to update to the new OS.

Apple Watches that will receive watchOS 9
Apple has revealed which models will be updated to watchOS 9. Apple Watch Series 3 owners will be disappointed, as you need at least a Series 4 to use watchOS 9. Below is a list of all compatible models:
Apple also explains that you need an iPhone 8 or newer. Predictably, the Apple Watch Series 3 will fall short, as the model’s last update wasn’t without problems. This year, Apple won’t be able to offer all new features in all models, in all regions, and in all languages.

Personally, I find it odd that Apple continues to officially sell the Apple Watch Series 3. The price is certainly attractive, but if you want to continue enjoying the latest operating system, you’ll have to upgrade to a newer version.
