The Galaxy S23 series has a new feature called Image Clipper that lets you crop an object in a photo or video. In this tutorial, kwgeek shows you how to remove backgrounds from images on your Galaxy smartphone.
summarize
Apple introduced a similar feature, better known as Lift & Drop, in iOS 16 for the iPhone. Samsung’s Image Clipper feature in One UI 5.1 is the same as it is on the iPhone. However, it is only compatible with the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra.
Galaxy smartphones that support the Image Clipper function
Samsung hasn’t officially listed which Galaxy smartphones are compatible with the Image Clipper feature, which can be found in the native Gallery app. But currently, it’s available on the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 Plus, and Galaxy S23 Ultra under One UI 5.1.
Although updated to One UI 5.1, older models such as the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S21 that were updated to One UI 5.1 do not offer this feature. It’s unclear if it’s exclusive to the Galaxy S23, or if it’ll come to older models later via an update.

How to Crop Objects from Photos on Galaxy Smartphones
Since the Image Clipper function is based on an AI algorithm, it is possible to cut objects more efficiently and instantly for images in which the subject contrasts sharply with its background. Again, most images with distinct, focused subjects should support this feature. Here are the steps to crop a subject:
- roll outgallery app
- Select the frame in which the subject or object is in focus
- Long press the topic and wait for it to be highlighted
- Options copyshare and save are displayed immediately.

How to hijack an object and generate a new image from a video
Similar to iPhone, you can also remove subjects or objects from video clips on Galaxy smartphones. Simply pause the video when the subject is clearly visible before selecting the area of interest. Remember, this only applies to videos in your gallery. However, we were unable to use this feature in YouTube videos.

You can also take a screenshot while the video is playing and use the saved image to crop out your desired subject. These newly generated images can be shared or copied with others. However, it’s best to use this feature natively in your gallery’s video recordings.
