To summarize:
What are the criteria for choosing an Orange mobile plan?
Orange 4G or 5G plan, what’s the difference?
The main difference between 4G and 5G is the quality of the internet connection. 5G offers faster download speeds, lower latency and opens up more possibilities, such as developing augmented and virtual reality or connecting objects.
4G | 5G | |
---|---|---|
speed | Download speeds up to 1 Gbps | Download speeds up to 20 Gbps |
HD movie download speed (about 4GB) | more than 3 minutes | 10 seconds |
MP3 album download speed | 15 seconds | 3 seconds |
5G is currently being deployed in France. So far, major major cities have been covered. So whether you need speed or not, you have a choice. Note that 5G plans are generally much more expensive than 4G plans. In any case, it is still necessary to check that you have a compatible smartphone and are in the right place to be able to benefit from the best speed.
5G coverage of Orange network
By the end of 2021, 5G networks have been deployed in nearly 900 cities, and Orange now covers more than 38% of the metropolitan population. Orange has 3,035 5G sites by June 2022, while Bouygues Telecom, Free Mobile and SFR have 13,470, 6,730 and 4,984 sites respectively.
If you’re wondering if your city is covered by Orange’s 5G, I invite you to consult the mobile network coverage map the operator provides on their internet by clicking on the previous link.
With maps made by Arcep, you can compare Orange’s 5G coverage with operators Bouygues, Free and SFR.

Orange or Sosh, what’s the difference?
The main difference between Orange and Sosh is that Orange is a true classic operator while Sosh is a commercial offer from Orange. Orange owns its own facilities, and therefore its own network, and Sosh is content to sell Orange’s offer, not the operator.
Sosh is Orange’s low-cost brand, and since Sosh’s packaging is cheaper than Orange’s, the difference between the offers is mainly in price. Sosh specializes in cheap, non-binding mobile plans.
Additionally, there was no difference in network or coverage between Orange and Sosh users. Also, Sosh’s customer service is entirely online, so it can’t be reached over the phone. Also note that Sosh does not offer in-store service, which may affect responsiveness in the event of a problem.
Orange also offers classic customer service, promising a guaranteed solution within 24 hours. So the choice depends on whether you are comfortable with this type of interaction.
Why orange and not Bouygues, SFR or others?
According to the latest Mobile Connectivity Barometer (end June 2021) from measurement specialist nPerf, Orange is the best 5G operator with an average download speed of 321 Mb/s, ahead of SFR (309 Mbs), Bouygues Telecom (149 Mb/s) ) and free (129 Mb/s). Orange exclusively offers the 3.5 GHz band, which is the best.
The truth is, not all 5G is created equal. The 3.5 GHz band is the best band because it’s the one that provides “true” 5G. This frequency band is guaranteed to provide users with the best possible speed because it is exclusively allocated for 5G and therefore represents the core frequency band for 5G.
Is it easy to cancel your Orange plan?
The procedure for canceling an Orange subscription depends on several factors. But most importantly, remember to save any data you may have so that you don’t lose them on termination.
If you have a non-binding plan and want to subscribe to a new carrier, just request portability of a phone number and the new carrier will take care of everything. This procedure requires your new operator to complete the cancellation procedure.
All you have to do is call 3179 from your mobile phone to obtain your Statement of Carrier Identity (RIO). The phone is free and the service is universal to all carriers. Once you’ve chosen your new plan and got your RIO number, all that’s left is a subscription.
On the other hand, if you want to cancel a committed plan, you will have to pay or not pay a cancellation fee depending on your circumstances. If you wish to terminate your commitment plan for which all monthly dues have been paid, you can terminate or switch carriers at no cost.
If you wish to terminate a package with a promise before it expires, you will have to pay a termination fee. To cancel, you must estimate your cancellation fee on Orange’s dedicated fee estimation page, then submit your cancellation request online on the Cancellation Requests page. You will then have to choose to cancel the mobile plan involved and select the option Cancel your offer Then let yourself be guided.
Finally, keep in mind that if you buy a smartphone from Orange, you will need to apply for an unlocked smartphone to work with another carrier.
Comment:
- Termination is effective 10 days after your request or a later date specified by you.
- Only the contract holder can request termination
- As long as your termination request is invalid, you can cancel it.
How do I change Orange’s plans?
Changes to Orange’s plans also depend on your current situation. If you are from another operator, you must meet their cancellation conditions and communicate your Declaration of Operator Identity (RIO) to Orange in order to cancel the program and activate your new plan.
If you already use Orange, to change your plan, follow these steps:
- Go to the orange website.
- access your Client area Log in by using your credentials.
- select section Quotes and Options.
- Click on your current mobile plan (the plan you want to change), then click Manage your offers and options.
- choose your offer.
- Finally, click change quote.
Know that there are no conditions or fees to pay. You can request a change at any time for free, even if your commitment period has not ended.
Once your quote change is verified, you will be able to access a summary of the selected package along with the total price, and you will receive a confirmation email.
The promised orange package
Choosing a plan with a commitment is pretty restrictive because, as the name suggests, you will be blocked for the duration of the commitment, which is usually 24 months. On top of that, you will not be able to terminate the contract as you see fit, and there will be a fee for early termination. In terms of advantages, we can cite free options such as 4G keys or services such as repairs provided.
Commitment plans are usually aimed at people looking to buy a new smartphone, as it offers a sizable price reduction on their first purchase. It might also work for loyalists who don’t change plans often.

No-Commitment Orange Package
Unlike a committed plan, a no-commitment mobile plan is a plan that retains the freedom to terminate the contract at any time. It’s ideal for people who change plans frequently or just want to preserve the possibility of terminating their contract to switch to a better plan or another carrier.
Orange offers five no-commitment plans in its online store. These plans are tailored to different needs, allowing you to benefit from unlimited calls and SMS/MMS or even multi-SIM internet. Also note that all of these plans have a 12-month term requirement, which means the price of the plans will increase after the first year.
