While testing One UI 5, I noticed how the update to Android 13 highlights features such as using themes and other features to customize the look of your smartphone. Therefore, we decided to show each of these options in this article, just like we did for iOS.
Summary:
How to change the wallpaper on a Samsung smartphone?
Probably one of the most important customization features, wallpapers are at the top of the list. However, it’s undeniably gaining traction with the release of Android 12 and Material You in 2021.
In fact, it will determine features such as themes and color palettes for the entire system. Therefore, I recommend that you choose a wallpaper before doing any other settings. However, if deep modifications to the exterior of your smartphone are in your mind, head straight to the topic section of this guide.

Here, Samsung offers a variety of options, from exclusive Galaxy series wallpapers to images from the photo gallery and Galaxy Themes store. I recommend you explore each option before choosing your final wallpaper. I want to mention that Samsung allows you to use short videos on the lock screen, but you cannot use them as wallpaper on the home screen.
If you’re not satisfied with the system’s default wallpaper art selection options, you can download third-party apps to explore other options. Personally, I’m a fan of the Google Wallpapers app.

How to customize app icons on Samsung smartphones?
Since we’re talking about icons, we thought it was worth pointing out that you can go further than just applying the system color scheme to app icons. For example, you can use theme options (varies by manufacturer) or use third-party icon packs available on Samsung Store and Google Play Store.
I admit I used to be more interested in changing the look of app icons on Android, but that has waned over time—and frankly, I don’t recall falling in love with icon packs in recent years. However, given the interest iOS users have in this topic, I’m sure many Samsung smartphone users will also appreciate it.
In this regard, Samsung provides free and paid options, just long press the blank space on the home screen, and then click theme > icon (at the bottom of the galaxy themed screen). The advantage of using Samsung’s local store to choose icons is that you can pretty reliably preview how the icons will look on your Galaxy. By using the Play Store, you will get a general overview.
I explain below how to change app icons on Samsung Galaxy:
- Press Blank space on the screen.
- At the bottom of the screen, select Options theme.
- At the bottom of the screen, click the icon.
- according to go download

How to change Samsung home screen layout?
If your wallpaper says a lot about you, the organization of your home screen items certainly can, too. In screen settings we can change features like layout, grid, media pages and gestures. In Android 12, we added a grid of apps in 4×5 format, but it’s possible to go up to 5×6.
We get rid of the multimedia page from the settings, or we switch between Google Discover and Samsung Free. Finally, from this menu you can activate gestures like “swipe down to show notifications,” which is helpful when using the device with one hand — a feature that’s almost essential for the Galaxy S22 Ultra .

How to add widgets to the home screen of a Samsung smartphone?
As you probably already understand, this is not a “best list”. So I won’t be here to point out which widgets you should or shouldn’t have on your home screen. However, here are some suggestions on how to add and use widgets on your Samsung smartphone’s home screen.
To add widgets to your home screen, it’s very easy:
- Press Blank space on the screen.
- At the bottom, select the option small parts.
- Swipe to select the desired widget and long press it.
- Place the widget where you want it and drop it.
- Here you can choose the size of the widget on the screen.
- If you want to delete an item or change its settings, just long press it.

That said, my number one piece of advice about using widgets is to never overlap shortcuts. That said, don’t add the YouTube Music player widget to your home screen if you already have a shortcut to the YouTube Music app, or vice versa. This way, you can maximize the software available on the home screen.
But I’ll save the most important tip for last: use the new stacked widgets on your Samsung Galaxy’s home screen. Thanks to them, you can stack multiple widgets in the same space and navigate between them without leaving the same screen. In addition to saving space, it also manages multiple tasks more efficiently. See below how to configure stacking widgets:
- Press screen widget
- click [+] create stack (or modify the stack) in the options of the desired window
- Select widgets to stack
- Only same or resizable widgets can be used at the same time
- click Add to
- you can choose Auto or manual rotation Edit screen widgets in stack widgets
Now it is your turn: Personalizing your home screen is a matter of pride, so I’d like to ask you to…
