On some Android smartphones, you can double-tap the Home screen to turn off the screen and lock the smartphone. I just discovered this gesture, like the Cro-Magnons who discovered the fire, and I think it’s simply amazing.
We all know Back Tap, a well-known double-tap gesture, such as in Apple or Xiaomi, which, when performed on the back of a smartphone, allows access to various shortcuts. But crazy things also happen when you tap the front of your smartphone.
I’m working on the setup of my Nothing Phone (1), its full test will be released this week, and I came across the “double tap to turn off display” option. This feature allows you to turn off the smartphone screen, thereby locking it by double-tapping on the home screen.
On my Nothing Phone (1) the steps are:
- do one Press At your Home
- press Home screen settings
- activation option Double click to close display
But the feature also comes from many other manufacturers, such as Samsung and Xiaomi. In One UI 4, this feature is enabled by default, but here are the steps:
- Enter set up then to Advanced Features
- Enter Actions and Gestures
- activation option Double tap to turn off screen
This feature also exists in Samsung, enabled by default in One UI 4 / © kwgeek
In MIUI, the only difference is that double taps can only be performed from the lock screen. Basically, the function is only used to wake or turn off the screen after the screen is locked, such as showing Always On Display. Here are the steps to follow:
- go to set up
- Enter Always show and lock screen (Thanks to Xiaomi for the translation, really)
- activation option Double tap to wake or turn off screen when device is locked
On Xiaomi, MIUI only allows double tap to turn off the screen after the smartphone is locked / © kwgeek
That’s it for a quick tutorial on how to double tap to turn off your smartphone screen. What do you think of this feature? I just found out now that this function is completely screwed up?
