Apple’s upcoming 10th generation or iPad 2022 iPad has been leaked in a series of computer renders. The released documents hint at some changes to Apple’s entry-level iPad. However, as first reported two months ago, there’s no confirmation that USB-C will replace the Lightning port.
- The 2022 iPad will have a slimmer, shorter form factor, according to new renders
- Apple could use USB-C ports on new iPads
- Apple’s 2022 iPads expected to feature A14 SoC and 5G
polite my smart price, these charts reveal minor improvements in the design of the next-generation iPad. Its top and bottom edges appear to be thinner than last year’s 9th-generation iPad. The Home button with Touch ID is still at the bottom, and the front-facing camera is on the other side of the screen. Just by looking at these rough renders, it’s unclear whether the rumored screen magnification will work.

The back of the tablet will house an unfamiliar oval photo module. Presumably, the larger circle represents the camera sensor, while the smaller hole could be the microphone. What’s more, the 2022 iPad has similar edges to the iPad Mini 6, with flat edges and rounded corners. The volume buttons and power button also look flatter. Also, the source mentioned that the tablet will be thinner and shorter.

It’s impossible to say whether the next-gen base iPad will eventually ditch the Lightning port, as the port is obscured by a red marker on the render. But it would be better for Apple to ditch its proprietary ports, as its recent iPads have more general-purpose USB-C ports.
iPad 2022: Additional specs and availability
The 2022 iPad will feature the more powerful Soc A14, which will offer better performance and longer battery life compared to its predecessor. Apple is expected to announce the next iPad line sometime in September or October. Additionally, the release of iPadOS 16 should be delayed until October, so it makes sense for the company to tie the release of its new operating system to the launch of a new tablet.
