Like every weekend, we meet at kwgeek as I pick 5 free or paid mobile apps and games that caught my eye on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
Every week I try to bring you the best apps that aren’t personal data traps or microtransaction dens. For my own discoveries, I’ve also added applications that the kwgeek community unearthed and shared on our forums, which I invite you to check out.
From mobile games to productivity apps, here are 5 free and paid Android/iOS apps from kwgeek this week. We post this pick every week, and you can also check out my 5 apps from last week.

Taskade (Android & iOS)
Ok, that concludes the top 5 apps in Relax mode with my colleagues Ben and Stefan. I’m in control, and we start with a productivity app for Android and iOS: Taskade. This app offers a range of features to organize your digital workspace.
You can create projects, tasks, set goals and schedule them, and track their progress. You can share tasks and assign them to other members of the workspace. The interface is beautiful, everything is neat and accessible, the information is visually organized and the collaboration aspects of the app are well thought out. Everything is synced via the cloud.
The free version of Taskade is also very complete and there is also a desktop version. The 5€/month Pro formula only allows you to upload files over 250 MB, manage permissions/limits for workspace members and sync your Google Calendar. The app contains no ads and is available in French.
- Price: Free / Ads: No / In-App Purchases: Yes (5€/month) / Account: Required / French: Yes

App exit button (Android)
This Android app uses accessibility features to add a floating button to your interface, allowing you to quickly close the app. The idea is to allow you to leave the app and close it with a single click on the smartphone screen, and hide it from prying eyes.
For example, let’s say you’re reading smartphone tests on a tech site that’s not kwgeek. It’s a real shame and I recommend against it. But let’s admit it. Well, if someone suddenly shows up behind you and wants to see what you’re doing on your phone, you can quickly hide your big mistakes before they get caught up. Oh yes, you can also visit kwgeek.fr and read the veritable test. I said so, I didn’t say anything, but I’m staring at you!
The app is free, has no ads and is very easy to use. The developers say the navigation works best if you have three buttons, but I tested it with gesture navigation without any issues.
- Price: Free / Ads: No / In-App Purchases: No / Account: Not Required / French: No
Measurement: Converter and Scanner (Android)
This Android app allows you to scan English cooking recipes and convert units to add your ingredients correctly. Ounces, teaspoons, and other wacky imperial system whimsy won’t talk to you? You can get the equivalent in the metric system.
Optical Character Recognition seems reliable. The app can also adjust each dose determined based on the consistency of different types of ingredients (liquid, solid, etc.). The interface is not very pretty, it includes ad banners at the bottom of the screen. Get rid of it with a one-time purchase of €2.09.
- Price: Free / Ads: Yes / In-App Purchases: Yes (€2.09) / Account: Not required / French: No

Hundeo (Android & iOS)
This German-made app (“Hund” is German for “dog”) offers a range of guides and tutorials for training, feeding and caring for your dog. The app is also translated into English, even if nothing earns respect more than shouting abuse in Goethe’s language.
You can create a profile for your dog and fill out its “tech sheet”. You can then choose to have him do tricks, play games, learn food recipes and take classes to learn more about dog training and behavior. The app offers detailed step-by-step tutorials, including illustrations and even how-to videos.
The app is free to download, but some modules are blocked and you must checkout to access them. The subscription costs €14.99 per month or €35.99 per year (equivalent to €2.99 per month, billed once). You have a 7-day free trial to get inspired.

Streets of Rage 4 (Android and iOS)
I’m going to tell you about Diablo Immortal, the big mobile release in the last few days, but I’m going to abstain given the microtransaction story of drastically improving a single character with 100,000 bullets.
Instead, I recommend Streets of Rage 4, another big name in video games. This isometric 3D fighting game is a mobile port from Nancy-based French publisher Playdigious (the publisher is also affiliated with one of the French studios, DotEmu for PC and console releases in 2020).
We found very arcade controls, a style of graphics inspired by the world of comics and games, releasing steam through its beat mechanics (you walk left to right and have to smash everything that moves manually). I can’t wait to try it this weekend.
The game is paid and costs 7.99 euros. It’s ad-free and includes a $3.99 in-app purchase to unlock more characters. MFI controller support is included, and multiplayer will be available through a free update.
- Price: €7.99 / Ads: No / In-App Purchases: Yes (€3.99 per item) / Account: Not required / French: Yes
