Eight months ago, when we sifted through all the options to find the best iPhone MagSafe battery packs, few options were enough to fully restore a dead iPhone 12 or 13 Pro Max. But for those who prefer oversized smartphones, Anker has introduced a new MagSafe-compatible battery with a capacity of 10,000 mAh that can fully charge any iPhone model.
Last year’s Anker PowerCore Magnetic 5K was a good option, but it wasn’t the cheapest 5,000 mAh option at the time, nor was it the fastest, with wireless charging capped at 5W. Our top picks are Apple’s own MagSafe battery pack (its added features and ease of use outweigh its price tag and limited capacity) and Mophie’s Snap+ Juice Pack Mini, which costs $50 in a sleek, compact form factor, but 7.5W charging speed is still available.
Anker’s upgraded offering looks like the improvements we’d like to see check all the right boxes. When wirelessly charging an iPhone 12 or 13 model via a MagSafe connection, its charging speed has been boosted to 7.5W, although the USB-C port on the side can also be used to charge the smartphone at 20W faster, when the cable is added back into the mix . Anker even includes a USB-A port for those who use an old charging cable but don’t want to opt for a USB-C adapter.
The upgraded 10,000 mAh battery can fully charge any smartphone currently available (though the MagSafe feature is exclusive to recent iPhones), and Anker claims that the iPhone 12 can be fully charged twice and the battery can almost Charge your iPhone 13 twice. The bigger battery does mean the new power bank is a bit thicker than last year’s model, but Anker has a pop-up stand for those who find themselves exhausted from holding an iPhone.
As for pricing, according to 9to5Toys, while the Anker PowerCore Magnetic 5K costs $55, the new 10,000 mAh option is a reasonable price hike to $80.
